Project Objective
Ketch Brewing is a brewery located in San Diego, CA. At their inception, they needed a visual language for their canned beverages that could easily be translated as they brought new drinks to market.
The direction created for Ketch, pictured above and below, utilizes clear illustrations to depict brewery stories and seafaring imagery to create cans that catch eyes in store displays.
Celestial Navigation IPA
The Celestial Navigation IPA can depicts a sailboat at night in front of a large crescent moon with stars - leaning into the beer’s name with a serene scene of navigating by the stars at night.
Alta Mar Vienna Lager
This can showcases a more fanciful scene, with a boat sailing through a glass of beer with a shark circling underneath. The amber hue shown on the bottom of the can mirrors the lager’s natural color.
Compass Rosé
The Compass Rosé Can tells a story - this brew was made when Dr. Billheimer (lead brewer at Ketch Brewing) had to race against time and fermentation, transporting grapes south to San Diego to create a rosé and beer hybrid. He’s pictured in his truck traveling along the coast with grapes spilling out behind him. The can’s illustration showcases the pink color of the beverage inside.
Dr. Billheimer’s Magic Pilsner
Again leaning into fanciful imagery, this can showcases a “wizard” version of Dr. Billheimer brewing up his Magic Pilsner in a cauldron. The aromas wafting from the cauldron are interspersed with bubbles, making the can resemble a glass full of Pilsner.
