Project Objective
T S Restaurants owns and operates 13 restaurants throughout Hawaii and California. They publish an internal quarterly magazine celebrating their employees, accomplishments, and heritage of their restaurant locales. Each quarter focuses on a different theme, reflected visually in the publications’ cover and contents.
“Celebrating Hawaii” Issue
This issue of T S Times is focused on the theme “Celebrating Hawaii.” For this cover, a fully-custom illustration was made depicting a woman and her mother exchanging a traditional “Honi” greeting. The cover also features illustrations of native Hawaiian plant life.
“Celebrating the Women of T S” Cover
In this issue, women in the T S Restaurants organization are spotlighted. It was necessary in the cover to ensure a focus on multiple women without highlighting any particular member. To achieve this, a stochastic circular mosaic with employee pictures was layered between watercolor illustrations of hibiscus, palm fronds, and birds of paradise.
“Looking Forward to 2019” Issue
This issue focused on the move into 2019. The client requested a collage of different Hawaiian elements - including a turtle, snorkeler, palm trees, lava rock walls, lei, and traditional hoʻokupu ti leaf offerings.
